The Jack Hanley Gallery, Los Angeles is pleased to present Building for Water, the first Los Angeles solo exhibition by Keegan McHargue.  The exhibition will feature drawings, paintings as well as an ambient soundtrack composed by the artist.

Working in black and white, McHargue creates labyrinthine landscapes in his drawings, often unfurling in detail from one viewpoint outwards, and upwards.  Layered with richly rendered surfaces the drawings are palimpsestic, and hidden figures emerge from the patterns and mazes.  Themes of Christianity, urbanization, genetics, and sexuality are woven together and coalesce in unique forms that resist simple recognition.  These forms appear recycled, molded from seemingly disparate sources, and interact in fantastic dioramas.
