Gee Vaucher

The Jack Hanley gallery, San Francisco, is pleased to present a solo exhibition of the work of London-based artist Gee Vaucher. From 1977 to 1984, Vaucher created the visuals for the anarchist English band Crass, who helped define DIY, politically engaged artistic expressions of punk music. Her work is generally accepted as having been seminal to the 'protest art' of the 1980s and the iconography of the 'punk generation.' When Crass disbanded in 1984, Vaucher felt the need to explore other areas of her work, abandoning the tightness of her more 'overt' political statements in favor of a more loosely expressed personal politic. The exhibition, Introspective, features Vaucher's work for Crass, along with an eclectic sampling of other projects from the past 40 years.
Gee Vaucher has exhibited extensively throughout the world in both solo and group shows including exhibitions at 96 Gillespie London, Gavin Browns Enterprise NYC and various shows in collaboration with Banksy, the England-based graffiti artist.
